The Multi-Billion Dollar Halloween Industry

Halloween gets its origin from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain; a religious celebration to welcome the harvest at the end of the season. People would light bonfires and wear costumes to expel the ghosts. During the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designed November 1 to honor the saints, with the holiday being aptly named ‘All Saints Day’. This festivity would incorporate different traditions of Samhain, with the subsequent ‘All Hallows Eve’ being the evening before All Saints Day, which would transform to be known as Halloween.

Economic boost

Although Halloween is only one day, many people go all out to decorate for Halloween. According to the National Retail Federation, people spend $10.1 billion on Halloween which makes Halloween the second biggest retail event each year. The National Retail Federation expects 69% of customers in 2022 to spend around $100.45 on items such as costumes and treats.

Halloween is loved by many all around the states as many individuals may participate regardless of religion. Kids can dress up as any character they may desire and trick-and-treat around the neighborhood either with friends or with a parent
